Benefits of a Cage Stand

Cagetopia® Cage Stands are a great way to get your guinea pig cage off the floor if you don't have or don't want to put them on a regular table. Stands height is about 15 inches -- or the height of the 14" grids plus a little room for the top and bottom connectors. It puts the cage on typical coffee-table height. It gets the cage off the floor -- which is almost always drafty -- and makes it easier to clean (less bending over or kneeling). And it provides much better access and visibility for young kids.

Yes, you CAN stack them and do a double cage stand. Just be sure to reinforce all connections with cable-ties, which is recommended anyway.

Yes, you CAN put two-level and covered cages on our cage stands. No problem.

EASY BUILDING with Cagetopia

Cagetopia GRIDS and CONNECTORS are EASY to work with! They snap in perfectly -- nice and tight, yet you don't have to muscle them in like most other brands of grids and connectors these days. When you are doing a lot of it when creating a cage stand, it's nice to work with great quality components.

How does it work?

Connectors are a little like the Tinker Toy connectors. They can be turned flat, bottom up, or on their side. They can connect one level to another. If you do a two-level stand, you'll order two cage stands (quantity of two), but you'll end up with a few left-over connectors, because you turn the outer perimeter connector on edge and connect the next level to that shared connector.

The top, perimeter connectors are turned on the edge to accept the perimeter grids of your cage wall. The MIDDLE connectors are turned flat (smooth side up) so that the Coroplast bottom of your cage can sit flatly on that grid floor.

EXPANDING an EXISTING STAND

You can make a stand as long as you like. You are not limited to the Jumbo 2x6-grid stand.

For every ONE GRID of length expanding JUST the STAND, you'll need:

Note about COVERS: Changing cover sizes requires reconfiguring depending on lofts and such. You can alway review the "What's Included" tab on any item to see the parts that you are going FROM and TO and figure out the differences for what you need. Or Contact Us to help you figure that out.

Creating a HALF-HEIGHT grid stand instead

If you want to go with a SHORTER stand, we have two options as we have two different Half-Height grids:

  • Our TALL Half-Grid is 7 13/16" x 14" with 5 inner grid holes, and 
  • Our SHORT Half-Grid is 6 3/8" x 14" with 4 inner grid holes (shown below).

Allow room for the connectors in your design.

Height off the floor

Air space (clearance) from a wood floor to the cage grid, using connectors:

  • Regular Stand: 14.5 inches
  • Tall Half Grid Stand: 8.25 inches
  • Short Half Grid Stand: 6.75 inches

Since we don't have an official product to order yet for half-height stands, here is what you need to order under our Components menu to make a HALF-HEIGHT Stand. You decide if you want to use SHORT or TALL half-height Grids.

The half-height grids are needed vertically. You still need regular grids for the horizontal floor of the cage:
